Subject: Crank Brothers Acid Pedal - New - For Sale

I bought a new bike and they came with these Crank Brothers Acid Pedals. I use Shimano pedals on all my bikes so I'm looking to sell them. They've never been used. Looking online they cost seem to be $119.99. Here is a link showing the pedals:

http://www.sagecycles.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=PD00CBAC01&Category_Code=CRANKBROS&Product_Count=16

I'm looking to sell them for $90, OBO.

Here is a picture of the actual pedals and everything that came with them.

Subject: Flat Top Friday?

Thinking about parking at the base of Mission Home @ 810 and climbing Flap
Top on Friday. Start pedaling @ 6:30.

Probably 2 hours of riding with ~3000ft of gain and a really fast descent.
Mostly gravel road.

Anyone? Anyone?

Subject: In remembrance of Aaron Joseph Powell

The CAMBC community wishes the best to David and Ellen during this time of sadness.

Subject: In remembrance of Aaron Joseph PowellDate: Wed, 23 Jul 2008 10:40:39 -0400From: mudjudge@netscape.netTo:
Please forgive this sad communication coming by email, but we hope you will understand this is the easiest way for us to deal with it at the moment:

On July 21, our son Aaron Joseph Powell entered this world unexpectedly early. At 23 weeks, his outlook at first was not too bad. However, upon examination, it was found that he had severe bleeding in both halves of his brain, and it had critically worsened by the next day. Aaron passed away peacefully yesterday afternoon, July 22, in the tender and loving embrace of his parents.
Aaron's mission here on earth was successfully completed by teaching us what it means to be parents. He also touched the lives of many dedicated doctors, nurses, paramedics, and of course family. He lives in each of us, and we know he will continue to do great things as he continues his journey in the wide, unknowable universe.

Please keep Aaron and us in your thoughts, prayers, and meditations. This is the most painful thing we have ever experienced, but we have each other and many supportive friends and family, and for that we are grateful. While this is an intensely personal loss, we understand that it also affects you, our friends. Please don't hesitate to call us if20you want to – although we won't promise a completely coherent conversation just yet.

In lieu of gifts, donations may be made in Aaron's memory to the UVa Children's Hospital neonatal intensive care unit: Sarah Du Bose Fund, UVa Health Foundation, PO Box 800773, Charlottesville, VA 22908-0773.

This week's WNR will tag on to the end of the Crit tomorrow night at the

Subject: HORNETS NEST WARNING/SHERANDO

Meant to send this a couple of weeks ago

WARNING: Large Hornets nest on a low overhang on the Mill Creek Trail
out at Sherando.

>From the Coal road parking area, riding up the Mill creek trail towards
the switch backs, on that swampy plateau section that is usually
overgrown with that thick low brush (Botanists chime in anytime with the
species name) there is a very large, very nasty and well fortified
hornets nest between head and handle bar level buried in that brush
smack dab in the middle of the trail. It has already claimed a few
victims. Due to the thick nature of the brush, removal will be very
tricky...know anyone who has a bee suite?

FYI, If you ever have a close encounter with a Turkey vulture, as I did
on the RTF last Friday afternoon, one of their defense mechanisms is to
regurgitate on you. (maybe that was Karma speaking to me for not sending
this message out 2 weeks ago)

Subject: Monday ride - Forest Lakes 6pm rollout

Let's do another Monday ride. Pace is casual to moderate depending on who shows. Nobody gets dropped. Meet at 1581 Thornridge Way at around 5:50 and we'll leave at 6pm sharp.

Also...

I will be eternally greatful if someone shows up with a 3/8" x 20 tap or 1/2"x 20 tap (I don't know which it is) for a stripped bolt hole that's buggered up on the front of my truck. Got 3/4 through a rotor/pad job and was halted with a minor unforced cross thread incident. The 75 piece tap set at Sears didn't have the right size(of course I bought the biggest set....*$#$#), so instead of getting pissed and forcing it (surely to result in a tow truck coming), I decided beer and LeTour was a better idea.

RSVP appreciated, but not required.

Does anyone have any recommendations - trail guides, bike shops, trails,

I've heard that Gooseberry Mesa, Virgin River Rim Trail and Brian Head are
good opportunities...

Thanks much.

Subject: GW National Forest Plan Review Meetings - Verona/Staunton area meeting Friday

Folks,

we had a decent turnout at the Lexington meeting and the mountain biking input was extremely valuable.

If you're feeling guilty about not making it (and you should if you ride the GW, this plan review is once every 15 years I think...so I can make you feel guilty once every 15 years and not feel bad about it!) you can still go to the meeting in Verona. That's off Route 11 at the north city limits of Staunton for those not familiar with Verona. It's less than an hour drive from C'ville.

This is really simple, if your favorite national forest trail gets closed, don't complain if you didn't to one of these meetings. Individual input into a federal agency really doesn't get better than this.

If you are going, hit me with an email for some notes about the Lexington meeting.

Thanks, Will

Shape the Future of George Washington National Forest SingletrackHelp determine the future of popular trails like the IMBA Epic Southern Traverse during the George Washington National Forest forest plan update. The process, which is restarting after a year-long lull, features five public meetings, July 14 through July 28, to identify management needs for the forest. Mountain bikers packed the house last year and we need you to attend these meetings and voice support for more and better singletrack.George Washington singletrack faces real threats, including trail-to-road conversions to support mineral leasing and closures due to budget cuts or management changes. But we have a lot to gain: miles of new loop trails, protected access for bicycles, a larger trails budget and improved trail restoration after fires. This forest plan will guide management actions for 15-20 years, making it imperative that mountain bikers are at the table when important decisions are made. Let's make sure we are as closely involved in speaking for better singletrack as we were last spring.Being an effective participant is easy and doesn't require a lot of time. An IMBA representative will be present at each public meeting to share talking points and explain the forest planning process. All you need to do it show up.Join the Pre-Meeting RidesIMBA advocates will be leading group rides at 1pm before each public meeting. All are invited to join as we sample some of the more than 1,000 miles of trail open to bicycles in the George Washington National Forest. Subject: Monday ride - still on & GW meeting carpool

We got 1/3 of an inch last evening, but nothing else. The ride is still unless we get something else because 20 hours should be enough to let a 1/3 inch dry up in the summer. Another 1/3" sometime today would cancel.

Also if you intend to carpool to Lexington from C'ville around 5pm for the GWNF planning session (every rider who uses the national forest should at least consider this meeting), drop me an email. I plan to leave around 5pm and grab dinner near the meeting (applebees?) around 6pm. I can get a wagon that hauls 7 people if its needed.

There will be another ride this Monday in Forest Lakes. The pace will be casual to moderate depending on who shows up. Nobody gets dropped.

We'll meet at my house, 1581 Thornridge Way by 5:50 to get ready for a 6pm rollout. Keeping things on the up and up with the homeowners association, the trails are private and for use by residents and "guests" (hence my frequent "invites"). The ride is canceled if we get any significant rain.

Please RSVP if you get a chance. Beer and pool (that billiards, not swimming) available afterwards.
