Wild Ride 2008 at Lake Sherando 10/24-26: Rides+Trailwork+Camping = Lots of Fun!

  • CAMBC Wild Ride 2008. The weekend started looking like a washout but eventually the rains let up and trailwork and rides began. We manage 2 hours of trailwork and completed 6 water logs on the top of White Rock Gap and then surveyed, widened, clipped, and lopped as we rode the Reservoir Trail. On Sunday more showed up for the Whetstone Ridge ride. Meals included gourmet burritos, omlets, pancakes, hash browns, stew and plenty of brew. There were also time trials, an ever moving fire pit, shooting stars, alien conspiracy theories, and much, much more.

  • February 4, 2008. IMPORTANT TRAIL ACCESS NOTICE:
There have been reports of user conflict between bikers and non-bikers at McIntire Park, particularly on the newer freeride style trails that were built in January. These trails are being used as a model to promote future development of freeride features in Charlottesville, so reports of conflict can have a negative effect on the approval of already submitted plans for further development. When riding on any trails, but particularly the McIntire Park trails:
    1. Please wear proper safety gear (especially helmets).
    2. Yield the trail to all non-bikers.
    3. Use a friendly greeting to alert other trail users of your presence, especially when approaching from behind.
    4. Please encourage others to do the same.
  • Reporting Needed Trailwork. For easier reporting of areas of trails that need work (downed logs, wasp/bee nests, etc.), please use the labels on these marked up versions of the trail maps to facilitate communication with the trailwork crews:
